This session presents the findings from the comprehensive GSTC Destination Assessment of Phuket conducted between October 2024 and September 2025. As a premier global destination, Phuket faces the dual challenge of managing high visitor volumes while safeguarding its natural and cultural heritage. The discussion will explore the assessment’s results across the four pillars of the GSTC Destination Criteria: Sustainable Management, Socio-Economic Sustainability, Cultural Sustainability, and Environmental Sustainability. Panelists will share practical insights into the region’s progress and the gaps identified, particularly in areas like carbon neutrality—where the Phuket Old Town 2030 project serves as a pilot model—and resource management. By examining Phuket’s journey toward becoming a certified sustainable destination, this session provides a roadmap for other high-volume regions seeking to balance economic growth with regenerative tourism practices and community well-being.
