Slow Travel – Stay Longer and in Secondary Destinations

Slow travel represents a shift in traveler mindset from checklist-driven itineraries to meaningful immersion. This session focuses on the practical benefits of extended stays and the promotion of “off-the-beaten-path” locations. The discussion will explore how this movement facilitates natural dispersion by encouraging travelers to discover the authentic character of secondary destinations. By incentivizing longer stays, destinations can achieve better dispersion of economic benefits, reducing the leakages often found in high-turnover tourism. We will examine how providing immersive local experiences acts as a catalyst for dispersion, moving foot traffic away from saturated hubs and into communities that can benefit from sustainable growth.
